As an Advertising and PR major at Susquehanna University, one of the program requirements is to complete an internship and participate in at least one practicum. This summer, I had the incredible opportunity to intern at Mack Trucks, where I was immersed in the world of internal communications and employee engagement. My role involved creating e-Board announcements to keep employees informed about company updates, events, and safety protocols.
I also had the chance to take photos of the assembly line (see photo), capturing the teamwork and dedication behind each truck. This experience allowed me to see firsthand how effective internal communication can enhance employee morale and productivity within a large organization. I gained valuable skills in crafting messages that resonate with diverse audiences, and I’m excited to see how this internship will benefit me in the future.
For my practicum, there are several options available at Susquehanna, such as PRSSA, WQSU, and more. I chose to join the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA), which has been an amazing platform to practice my PR skills in real-world scenarios. In PRSSA, we create news releases and develop campaigns for actual companies, with the possibility that our work could be implemented. It’s been an incredible opportunity to apply classroom learning to hands-on projects, work closely with my peers, and build a portfolio of work that will be invaluable as I pursue my career in advertising and public relations. The combination of my internship and practicum experiences has truly enriched my education, broadened my perspective, and prepared me for future challenges and opportunities in the industry. I’m excited to continue growing and learning, with each experience bringing me closer to my career goals!
